LED and plasma television formats make room for laser TV, the next new video display technology that will use laser electronics. First considered a possibility in 1966, laser TV has eluded the marketplace for consumers until the recent Consumer Electronics Show 2008, when Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America unveiled their first commercial Laser TV, a 65″ Full HD model. Instead of white-light mercury lamps a Laser TV uses a red, blue and green laser to generate images. According to Mitsubishi, laser-powered television will deliver a range of color never before seen in homes. Laser light surpasses current high-definition technologies, HDTVs display less than 40 percent of the color spectrum that the eye can see, however, laser produces twice the color. Mitsubishi also invented the first rear-projection television and was the first to sell a complete high-definition TV system in the U.S.
