According to the Stanford University Press, "An invention by Stanford doctoral students Richard Gaster and Drew Hall may change who diagnoses diseases ranging from flu to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus. The invention, called the NanoLab (originally Lab-on-a-Stick), is a miniature, portable bioassay that can identify several disease proteins simultaneously without doctors, technicians or special lab equipment." full article

LifeStraw
LifeStraw, is a microbiological purifier that works like a straw, you stick Lifestraw into a cup of dirty river water for example and what you suck up will be fresh drinkable water. It is estimated that Lifestraw could provide good drinking water over 1.1billion people around the world. The stats on Lifestraw are that it can remove 99.9999 per cent of waterborne bacteria and over 98 per cent of waterborne viruses, and removes particles down to 15 microns, requires no electrical power and can filter up to 700 litres of water.
