Wired VC has recently posted a very interesting article criticizing Walker Digital, a company that has filed patent infringement suits against many giants on the digital technology scene, "In total, 15 suits have been filed against more than 100 defendants, including Microsoft, eBay, Amazon, Facebook, WalMartGroupon, Apple, Sony and Google." Wow that's what I have to say.
Jay S Walker, the founder of Walker Digital, also the founder of priceline.com, Synapse and numerous other successful companies, is the lead inventor on a majority of the company's patents and applications, more than 400 issued and pending US and foreign patents. Wired VC points out that many of these patents fall under the category of business practices, for example reward cards. Photo: Don Farrall/Getty Images

While it is a tragic fact in today’s American society that the average person is far less literate than previous generations, and that at the pace we are going future generations will be functionally illiterate, I was saddened to note that the word “Litigation” is misspelled in the title of this article.
It is bad enough that the average person fails in this regard, but to see professional writing in such a shabby state is truly disheartening.
I apologize for the mild reproval, but it is inarguable that writing is a form of teaching and that reading is a form of learning. This is especially true relative to the young and those whose first language is not English. And whether they know it or not, these readers/learners count on professionals like you to get it right. Thus, it seems to me that those who write professionally, particularly for mass, public consumption, should be held to a very high standard ─ because when they write, they also teach. And when they write errantly, they also teach errantly.
Moreover, it is incumbent upon professional writers to write with the vigor the craft ─ and its inherent responsibility ─ demands. Doing so would be a direly-needed step in the right direction, because as you most certainly know, this country is deeply mired in a literacy crisis.
Your thoughts are welcome.
