I just learned about the existence of the phrase, "Patent Trolls" of course I have heard of their actions for years but finally someone came up with a good name for them. According to New York Legal, Patent trolls are "blamed for driving up litigation costs with unfounded suits and extorting licensing fees from operating companies that don't want to risk the vagaries of a jury verdict in a place like Marshall, Texas."
So what do these little buggers do? Not research. Not invent. True patent trolls buy patents and then sue whomever they perceive as infringers. My pet peeve here btw is not about defending your patent rights. It's about non-contributors.
Origins of the Phrase Patent Trolls
The term "patent trolls" was first coined in 1993 to describe companies that file aggressive patent lawsuits. The term patent trolls became popular in 2001 after Peter Detkin, former assistant general counsel of Intel, used patent trolls to describe TechSearch, its CEO, Anthony O. Brown, and their lawyer, Raymond Niro, while Intel was defending a patent infringement suit against them.

Ain’t Honeywell too a “patent troll” ?
