I am really curious about the sixteen new patents just granted to Apple related to solar power and display. Possibly to help power Apple handheld devices or even the ipad? This would be great. According to the Apple Insider, "In January, the USPTO published an Apple patent application for an auxiliary solar cell that could be used as a backup power source for mobile devices. Apple has also looked into covering a device such as the iPod or iPhone with solar cells."
It should be noted that in 2010, Apple was awarded 563 patents, making it the 46th company in the world in terms of volume of invention.
Steve Jobs Resigns
Today, (August 24th, 2011) Steve Jobs resigned as CEO of Apple Corporation. Jobs, who has fought a long-running battle with cancer, said in his resignation letter. "I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come. I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee."
According to the London Telegraph, Steve Jobs has twice run Apple: once from its creation in 1976 until he was ousted in 1985, and again, 20 years later, when he returned to rescue a company on the brink of collapse. Turning the company around and presiding over the release of one hit product after another, from the iMac and iPod, through to the iPhone and iPad, is perhaps Jobs's greatest achievement." Jobs has certainly had an interesting life and career. Apple was nearly finished 15 years ago. He borrowed money from Bill Gates to keep it going. That must have killed him to do it. Now Apple is worth more than Exxon.
