FIBER OPTICS
Did we help save a life? One of my readers, Richard Sturzebecher, submitted
some material to me about Sam DiVita's development of fiber optics, information
which is not widely published or known. As the result of listing the information
on our fiber optics page, a Boeing engineer was able to trace the inventor
and consult with him about a vital issue. The engineer had discovered under
microscope examination that a type of fiber optic signal cable used on
aircraft was developing a serious problem, a potential hazard to flight
safety. Sam DiVita was able to correct the problem. If you would
like to read about Sam DiVita, see our fiber optics page under "The Inventors
of Glass Fiber Optics at the US Army Signal Corp" Special thanks to all
involved.
