Benjamin Banneker was a self-educated scientist, astronomer, inventor, writer, and antislavery publicist. He built a striking clock entirely from wood, published a Farmers' Almanac, and actively campaigned against slavery.Henry Blair was the only inventor to be identified in the Patent Office records as "a colored man."
Francis Scott Key (1780-18430 wrote the “Star-Spangled Banner” and coined the phrase “In God We Trust” which is used on the United States currency.
