By Mary Bellis, About.com

Question: What are the different classes of goods and services?

Answer: With trademarks, class or classification means the kind of goods or services offered being represented by a certain trademark.

When you register your mark you must create a list of classes for the goods/or services represented by your mark. Each class is assigned an international trade code. Filing with TEAS will make this process easier that you think.

Examples of Classes

The long list of classes includes for example:
  • For goods: Chemicals, Machinery and Hand Tools.
  • For services: Advertising & Business, Transportation & Storage, and Education.
