How long does it take for a trademark application to be registered?

By , About.com Guide

Question: How long does it take for a trademark application to be registered?
Answer: A applicant will receive an initial filing receipt from the USPTO approximately within six months after filing the trademark application or be rejected.

The filing receipt will include the serial number of the trademark application. However, the total time for an application to be processed may be anywhere from almost a year to several years in rare cases, depending on the basis for filing, and the legal issues which may arise in the examination of the application.

With the serial number you can check on the status of your trademark application with TARR.
