Tuan Vo-Dinh

Tuan Vo-Dinh invented optical diagnostic equipment.

By Mary Bellis, About.com

Vietnamese-born biophysicist, Doctor Tuan Vo-Dinh has invented lifesaving optical diagnostic equipment that can detect and diagnose diseases by optical scanning. One of Tuan Vo-Dinh's first patents was for a disimeter, a device that workers in plants and laboratories can clip to their clothing. At the end of the day, the disimeter gives a reading of any material that the employee has been exposed to.

Dr. Vo-Dinh also invented a device that can recognize the mutation of genes in the human body and determine the likelihood of someone developing a disease such as cancer, tuberculosis, or alzheimer; or detect a virus like HIV or any microbes.

Tuan Vo-Dinh's Patents

Tuan Vo-Dinh was granted patents #4,674,878 and #4,680,165 in 1987.
