USS Holland (SS-1)

In 1900, John Holland sold the US Navy its first viable submarine, USS Holland (SS-1). The USS Holland had been purchased at the suggestion of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Theodore Roosevelt in 1898. He saw the potential use of this type of vessel in Havana Harbor during the Spanish-American War.
