Who Are You?
I'm an optometrist by trade, but an inventor by heart. I stumbled upon an inventing/licensing book about two years ago. As I read through it with excitement, I somehow knew this was for me. After opening myself up to the possibility of inventing, ideas started flowing as if I had unplugged some distant part of my brain just waiting for it's chance to shine.
At What Stage of Completion is Your Invention?
My project is a real product, packaged and waiting to go onto store shelves. I have been contacting companies for possible licensing and would prefer that to selling it myself. I have created some different versions of my product, with the help of an illustrator, to show the versitility of my product.
Calling companies to view the product is the most difficult part of inventing process, especially since I am busy seeing patients all day.
Lessons Learned
- First and foremost, open yourself up to the idea of inventing and believe you can do it.
- read a few books on the subject, you'll learn a lot.
- learn how to protect your idea but be reasonable. The greatest invention in the world will do you no good if you don't trust someone to help you get it to the world
- tell someone who's in the field for an unbiased opinion. Your friends and family members won't know if it's good or bad and don't want to hurt your feelings
- Your idea doesn't need to be earth shattering or scientific, if it helps people's lives, and if it improves a current product, you can have a hit
Are You Seeking Funding or Business Partners?
Not necessarily but always open. I'm really looking for a company to partner with that is in the field and can get the product to retail consumers.
Who Would Want Your Invention?
My invention inspires kids to brush their teeth by making it fun. Parents would want my invention to inspire their kids to brush, kids would want my invention to have fun while brushing.
Describe Your Invention or New Idea
My device works snaps onto any standard toothpaste tube after removing the cap. It has a sliding bar with different shaped holes which the user can slide into position. Then simply squeeze the tube and the toothpaste goes onto the brush in a different shape ie. heart, star, etc.
Anything Else You Would Like To Say? Contact info?
I'd like to say thanks for allowing me the opportunity to publicize my invention. I've included a picture of a SpongeBob version as well as the original to show versitlity.
