Proposal for Wave Power

Proposed site for invention

Who Are You?

Just a local inventor, some of my inventions can be found at one of my work locations... a performing arts center. Most of my inventions are simple. I like to design them on the computer (when available) and then build them. Most of the time I have to invent the tools to make the simple inventions. My latest invention turns your regular table saw into an ultra precision cutting machine getting to remove close to 5 tenths or .0005 of an inch at a time. I have taken lots of courses in college in manufacturing and design.

At What Stage of Completion is Your Invention?

I am just at the design stage. The design I am mentioning here is a design that I can't test unless I have access to a pier and an ocean. I have all of the parts in design phase only. The parts are designed to be versatile.

Lessons Learned

  • The main issue is the uni-directional clutch which transfers the up and down motion of the wave into a releasable rotational force moving the hollow flywheel. The unit is similar to a paint spinner... except the paint spinner would have to spin the same direction when the handle is pulled or pushed in either direction. No lessons learned, just giving it to others to pursue. Also the generators can be accessible from underneath the pier walking surface.

Are You Seeking Funding or Business Partners?

I am not currently seeking funding... to many other urgent projects to pursue.

Who Would Want Your Invention?

Possibly cities with existing piers who want to offset current electric costs by using natural ocean waves. Eco cities who want to protect the barnacles or who would want to save lives near piers by having a handle on a floatation aid.

Describe Your Invention or New Idea

It is a modular enclosed rotating device that uses the rolling vertical motion of ocean waves to generate electricity. A floating device has a connector going to a uni-directional clutch which spins an internal open flywheel which a generator is attached on top. About 6 - 8 per pier pylon.
