Who Are You?
As an educator for 15+ years and parent of 4 sons, I have created the Reading Focus Cards (U.S. Patent 7,565,759), solutions for struggling readers of all ages. These tools help those with reading challenges often associated with AD/HD, dyslexia, autism, low vision, stroke recovery, TBIs and other issues.
My company, Brennan Innovators, LLC, was founded in 2007 and provides the Reading Focus Cards to parents, teachers, schools and other organizations who work with struggling readers. In addition, my company provides educational workshops and other presentations to schools & organizations in the Midwest.
At What Stage of Completion is Your Invention?
These patented Reading Focus Cards have been available for retail to the public since late 2008. Many Reading Focus Cards have been sold to parents, teachers, schools, for-profit learning companies, hospitals & other organizations.
A CIP has been filed as an extension to the original patent. This CIP describes a digital version or app for the physical Reading Focus Card. A prototype is currently in development.
Brennan Innovators, LLC creates and provides the Reading Focus Cards. The tools are proudly Made in the U.S.A.
Lessons Learned
- Always use a reputable intellectual property attorney for writing the patent application.
- Avoid idea development companies that require a large payment before services are provided.
- Keep GOOD records of the progress/evolution of your idea(s). This can protect you and the idea(s). Be sure to periodically have them dated AND signed by another reliable party (spouse or relative). In this way, you will have evidence that the idea(s) is/are your own should there ever be a question to the contrary.
Are You Seeking Funding or Business Partners?
A CIP (continuation in part) was filed to develop an extension to the original reading tool. We are currently seeking funding to further develop and market a digital version of the Reading Focus Card.
Who Would Want Your Invention?
Persons and organizations who teach and assist struggling readers and learners would be very interested in both the physical Reading Focus Card tools AND in the developing digital version of the tool: parents, teachers, schools, hospitals, for-profit learning companies, & other orgs.
Describe Your Invention or New Idea
The Reading Focus Cards isolate 1 or 2 lines of text, block out more surrounding text than any other tool available, and provide the reader with the option to read through a choice of colored filters to improve reading focus and comfort. They also have visual & tactile appeal for sensory learners.

With nearly 8% of U.S. school children with a diagnosis of some form of AD/HD, 1 in 5 U.S. children with dyslexia, and 1 in 88 affected by a form of autism, there is a great need to help those who are struggling readers---no matter what age they may be!
