His Master's Voice

On November 8 1887, Emile Berliner, a German immigrant working in Washington D.C., patented a successful system of sound recording - called the gramophone.

"His Master's Voice" became one of the best-known trademarks (designed by Berliner) in the world and was printed on early record labels.
